Perfumers sort fragrances into families, and once you know a few of them it gets much easier to describe what you like and find more of it. You don't have to memorise anything. Five categories cover most of what you'll smell, and here they are with examples from our range.
Fresh
Clean, bright and airy: citrus, water, green notes. Fresh scents feel awake and suit bedrooms, bathrooms and warm weather. Aqua Brooke is a light aquatic, and Tropical Sunrise is brighter and more citrus-floral.
Floral
Anything from soft white petals to rich tuberose. White Floral is gentle and soothing, and Jasmine Allure is fresh and green with a bolder heart. There's a whole Floral Collection if you'd like more.
Woody
Earthy, grounded and settled. Woody scents work well in living rooms and workspaces. Woody Patchouli and Spicy Vetiver both have that grounded, earthy character.
Oud and resin
Rich, smoky and luxurious. Oud is a statement, best in the evening and in cooler months. Intense Oudh and Oudh Saffron lean deep and luxurious, and our oud guide covers the room sprays.
Gourmand
Sweet and edible: vanilla, caramel, chocolate, coffee. Gourmands are cosy and shine in living and dining areas. Vanilla Cookie Crumble and Dubai Chocolate are good places to start, and there's more in our gourmand guide.
How to use this
Notice which family you keep being drawn to and start there. Then match it to the room: fresh for small or humid spaces, woody and oud for bigger rooms, gourmand for cosy corners. And don't feel boxed in. Plenty of people like a woody-floral or a fresh-gourmand mix.
